Abdullah Safir

RESEARCH ASSISTANT: DECEMBER 2022-SEPTEMBER 2023

Abdullah Safir is an interdisciplinary researcher whose current research interest lies in reimagining AI particularly from the Global South perspective.

Safir has recently finished his master’s degree in Digital Media and Culture offered by the Centre for Interdisciplinary Methodologies (CIM) at the University of Warwick with highly prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship and achieved distinction. He is expecting an award of outstanding performance for his dissertation from the department in which he critically evaluated the global AI for Climate Action practice and investigated how it responds to the Global South contexts and stakeholders. He also holds an engineering undergrad degree from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).

Safir co-developed a Strategy Primer as a former Senior Research Associate at BIGD, BRAC University in collaboration with Digital Pathways at Oxford which was launched by the State Minister of the ICT Division of Bangladesh. He was involved in multiple mixed-methods, survey, ethnography, and interview-based research at the intersection of digital technologies and their implications on historically and systematically excluded communities in the Global South and published co-authored papers in prestigious venues such as IFIP, UCL, ICT4D, ACM Interactions and CHI.
